Why should I look after my teeth & gums?
The mouth is the gateway to the digestive system and its health affects the whole of that system. Digestion starts as soon as food enters the mouth, where chewing and saliva prepare the food for the gut where absorption takes place.
If pain is felt in the teeth, gums or jaw making proper chewing difficult or if an infection in the root of the tooth has developed – the digestive system will be affected and polluted. Gingivitis (bleeding of the gums) is a common infection caused by lack of oral hygiene and sometimes an inappropriate diet. Problems in the gut can also give mouth problems such as bad breath and mouth ulcers.
To keep teeth and gums healthy:
Brush your teeth using fluoride toothpaste morning and evening for at least 2 minutes keeping your elbow as low as possible to prevent receding gums.
Floss and use interdental brushes at least once a day to remove food and plaque
Reducing the amount of times a day you eat sugar will also help keep decay to a minimum.
See your dentist for a check-up every six months. Your dentist can detect areas of in your teeth which if treated quickly can avoid fillings and tooth loss. The dentist will also check for the general health of your cheeks, tongue and throat. They can also recommend the correct oral health products which suit you and your lifestyle from the N12 Dental Shop. These products include electric and manual toothbrushes, mouth rinses, interdental brushes, floss etc. All at competitive prices.
White Fillings.
N12 Dental also provides you with the opportunity of replacing gold or silver amalgam fillings with tooth coloured restorations. In most cases it is impossible to see that the tooth has a filling after a tooth coloured restoration. There are many types of restorations, at N12 Dental Care these restorations can either be made of resin or porcelain. Options, costs and durability are discussed during treatment planning.
Gaps Between Teeth? Missing Teeth?
At N12 Dental Care we can change the colour, shape or size of a front tooth by fitting a
veneer
over it. Veneers are an ideal way of treating discoloured or unsightly teeth, closing gaps between front teeth or repairing chips and cracks. Veneers require very little work on the tooth itself and in many cases won’t need anesthetic.
If a tooth is badly broken or heavily filled, N12 Dental Care can
crown
it to restore its strength and appearance.
Bridge
and
dentures
are used to fill in missing teeth. A Bridge is ideal for those patients that only have one or two teeth missing. A denture replaces all of the missing teeth in the upper or lower jaw, or both.
Implants
are the next best thing to having your own teeth back. From a single tooth to a whole mouth implants are permanent teeth and ideal for those people who do not want to wear dentures.
Want Whiter Teeth?
With a little help from your dentist, it is now possible to whiten and brighten your smile without complex treatment.
There are a number of reasons why you might get your teeth whitened. Everyone is different and just as our hair and skin colour varies, so do our teeth. Teeth become naturally more discoloured as we get older. Your teeth can also become stained from certain antibiotics, foods and drinks; and from smoking.
We offer many options to suit your particular needs and budget. If you would like to know more about the procedures and how it may improve your smile – call us to book your free 10 minute consultation.
Nervous Patients
Our surgeons at N12 Dental Care are fully trained and experienced in dealing with dental phobic patients and those with dental fear and anxiety. N12 Dental Care uses a blend of essential oils to help create a more calming and relaxing environment.
For nervous patients N12 Dental Care recommend:
Tell the clinic that you are a nervous patient when you telephone to make your appointment.
Eat a light meal before your appointment; an empty stomach can increase anxiety. But avoid stimulants such as tea, coffee, fizzy drinks and chocolate.
Explain to the dentist, during Treatment Planning, how much treatment you feel you can tolerate at first.
Agree on an action, like raising your arm, during treatment as a sign that you want the dentist to stop.
